Numbers 7:4 NLT
“Then the Lord said to Moses,”
Then the Lord
In the previous verse, we read that the twelve tribal leaders, each representing one of the twelve tribes of Israel, came together in unity to bring personal gifts to the Lord at the front of the Tabernacle, an act of devotion and gratitude. Since Moses was present during this event, one might have expected the next verse to simply state, “then Moses received the gifted items,” indicating his role in accepting the offerings.
However, the following verse instead says, “then the Lord said to Moses,” highlighting that God’s direct communication was necessary and implying that Moses was in a state that required divine guidance or intervention. While the actions of the tribal leaders were undoubtedly commendable, it appears Moses was caught off guard by their generosity, perhaps unsure of how to proceed or interpret their offerings. Friends, the key lesson for us is to avoid rushing into accepting any form of generosity or favour prematurely; instead, we should emulate Moses by patiently waiting for God’s clear instructions before acting.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to always patiently wait for Your specific guidance and direction in every situation I encounter, trusting in Your wisdom and timing. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
