Numbers 11:3 NLT
“After that, the area was known as Taberah (which means “the place of burning”), because fire from the LORD had burned among them there.”

Mind your behaviour
One of the great challenges of our time is preserving the environment for future generations. Governments have introduced policies, and nations have signed agreements to advance this goal. We, too, can contribute through everyday actions such as recycling and environmentally responsible shredding, because we believe caring for the environment is our responsibility.

As children of God, we are called to care for the environment and protect it from both physical and spiritual decay so that the knowledge of the Lord can fill the earth as the water covers the sea. Before the people complained or showed ingratitude, did you notice that the place had no name? Their behaviour—and the consequences that followed—gave it a name, but not one worth remembering.

Friends, the way we conduct ourselves in the places where we live, work, and fellowship can shape how those places are remembered. Let us, then, be mindful of our actions. Rather than giving a place a bad name through our behaviour, let us allow the Holy Spirit to transform our lives, so that the shared spaces around us do not earn a poor reputation.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me avoid contributing to the spiritual decay of any shared space. May my actions instead help such places earn a good name and be remembered fondly. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
