Numbers 11:4 NLT
“Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed.”
What are you craving?
A story tells of a king with no children who adopted one of his slaves as his son. One day, the king and his son visited another king, who welcomed them warmly. Later, the son excused himself and disappeared for some time. When the king eventually learned that his son had been rummaging through the rubbish bin, he replied that the slave had finally revealed his true identity.
In the referenced scripture, we read that the foreign rabble among the Israelites craved the good things they had enjoyed in Egypt. Note that they chose to follow the people of Israel, but all of a sudden they began to miss the house of bondage. Though they had physically left Egypt, its influence remained in their hearts. Friends, if we are unclear about why we are Christians, we may find ourselves in the same position as the rabble. Have you truly left Egypt behind? If so, do not look back at what you have left behind, no matter how appealing it may seem. Instead, look ahead and set your heart on what awaits you in the Promised Land.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I surrender my life to You. Please reveal every ungodly desire in me so that, through the power of the Holy Spirit, I can let it go for good. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
