Numbers 11:4 NLT
“Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed.”
Guard Your heart
Did you know that the people in our networks can influence and shape our behaviour? Scripture affirms this truth. In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul warns that bad company can corrupt good character (1 Corinthians 15:33). Friends, who are you choosing to spend time with? Bad company may not appear harmful at first; it can even seem like the best thing that could happen to you. Guard your heart diligently.
In the referenced scripture, we read about the Israelites join the complaining when the foreign rabble among them craved meat (Numbers 11:4). This suggests the desire had already taken root among the Israelites and was waiting for an opportunity to surface. Friends, what thoughts or desires are you nurturing? If they conflict with God’s truth, they may soon become evident in your actions.
Although the Israelites had livestock with them, they still craved the meat they had eaten in Egypt. Friends, are you content with what the Lord has given you, or are your cravings unguided? What has the Lord blessed you with that you’re still complaining about?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please open my eyes to recognize the influence of the people around me. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of Your indwelling Word, help me discern which relationships are harmful and give me the strength to distance myself from those who lead me away from what is good. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
