Strong Tower: A Daily Scripture Reflection

Numbers 11:4 NLT
“Then the foreign rabble who were traveling with the Israelites began to crave the good things of Egypt. And the people of Israel also began to complain. “Oh, for some meat!” they exclaimed.”
Stamp out unmoderated desires
Although Scripture does not reveal how many people were in the foreign rabble, there is no evidence that they outnumbered the Israelites. Yet their ideas took hold in the Israelites’ hearts. As you probably know, it doesn’t take two bad apples to spoil the bunch—one is enough. And the one who causes the damage often operates in disguise; we tend to underestimate the havoc they can wreak. Friends, root out every unholy craving before it spreads into a spiritual epidemic.
It is also disheartening that the Israelites could not turn the foreign rabble away from their unsatisfied craving. Scripture does not say what led the foreign rabble to follow the Israelites out of bondage. One might assume they had witnessed God’s hand. Remember, too, that they were spared the loss of their firstborn sons on the night the angel of death visited the land. Without a doubt, they benefited from following YHWH’s directives, but their hearts were not devoted to Him, which is why they complained. Friends, if the Lord has been good to you when you did not deserve it, do not turn against Him by leading His people astray for the sake of fleeting desires.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not let fleeting desires lead me to turn anyone away from You or encourage them to oppose You or Your plan. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
