Numbers 7:34 NLT
“and a male goat for a sin offering.”
Avoid arbitrariness
Compared to the animals Elizur brought for burnt offerings, there was a clear and significant difference in the number designated for the sin offering. Elizur offered three animals for the burnt offering, while Moses emphasized that for the sin offering, Elizur presented a male goat. The specific choice for either was not arbitrary; it was based on divine instruction. Friends, avoid any arbitrariness but be guided by divine instructions.
Scripture states that acceptable sin offerings include a male goat, a sheep, or a cow. Trusting in God’s guidance, Elizur understood that he didn’t need to present all of them, and that a single male goat was sufficient to atone for his sins. This implies that God didn’t make atonement difficult or out of reach. Friends, through the blood of Jesus, God makes atonement for our sins accessible. Don’t reject it.
Additionally, Moses carefully examined the goat to confirm it was the correct type and in good condition; he also verified that it was a male, as required. Without such scrutiny, identifying the animal’s gender might have been unreliable. It’s important to note that while Moses oversaw the sacrifice, he was never the one performing it—the responsibility was solely divine—and Moses diligently carried out his oversight role without guesswork or omission, ensuring everything adhered to God’s commandments. Friend, do not neglect your responsibilities; instead, strive to perform them diligently for God’s glory.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to willingly accept Your divine guidance in every aspect of my life and to ensure that I do not leave any room for arbitrary decisions or actions that could undermine my faith or purpose. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
