Numbers 7:17 NLT
“For a peace offering he brought two bulls, five rams, five male goats, and five one-year-old male lambs. This was the offering brought by Nahshon son of Amminadab.”
Cheerful giving
In Leviticus 3, the Lord revealed to Moses the detailed instructions for the peace offering, emphasizing that a male or female animal without defect, such as a sheep or goat, was required. But the story of Nahshon takes it to the next level—he went above and beyond! Not only did he present different acceptable animals for the peace offering, but he also offered more than one unit of each, demonstrating true generosity. Clearly, Nahshon was a cheerful giver. Are you one?
Another message is that no one, including Moses, prevented him from doing what he had purposed for God’s glory. It is very likely that the priesthood and even Moses were flabbergasted by the extent of the peace offering, but since the Lord didn’t refuse, no one can. Nahshon was probably a family man, yet no one in his household advised him to do otherwise in what to present to God. Doing it with such a magnitude reveals the kind of family he came from.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to give You generously with a joyful and willing heart, ensuring that my offerings are thoughtful and intentional. May everyone in my household be united in understanding and committed to honouring You through our actions and sacrifices, reflecting our shared devotion and reverence. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
