Numbers 7:25 NLT
“His offering consisted of a silver platter weighing 3-1/4 pounds and a silver basin weighing 1-3/4 pounds (as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel). These were both filled with grain offerings of choice flour moistened with olive oil.”
The same standard
Although two tribal leaders of Israel had already presented their offerings, scripture still states that the contents of Eliab’s offering highlight two key points. First, the offering was inspected; second, his predecessors’ offerings did not exempt his from proper scrutiny. Friends, what would God discover when He examines your life?
Another message focuses on Moses, who did not see the process as overly long or burdensome but applied the same standard to everyone and their offerings. Moses inspecting and revealing the content of Eliab, rather than relying on Nahshon and Nethanel’s offerings as representative sample, is not a sign of mistrust but a commitment to thoroughness. Friends, as followers of Christ, you must not overlook the importance of diligence in any task you undertake.
The fact that Eliab, son of Helon, waited exactly 48 hours before offering his sacrifice shows patience and careful timing. He neither altered the composition of his offering to make it stand out from those of the other tribal leaders nor lowered its quality, thereby avoiding setting a poor example for future offerings. Friends, are you maintaining integrity and authenticity in your actions, or are you compromising them?
Additionally, the detail that Eliab’s grain offerings of fine flour were moistened with olive oil when he presented them indicates deliberate patience. He likely added the olive oil on the day of the presentation rather than earlier, when Nahshon and Nethanel offered theirs; otherwise, the flour’s quality could have deteriorated or spoiled by then. Don’t put yourself under unnecessary pressure; strive to do things right for God’s glory.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, grant me the strength to wait for Your perfect timing patiently. Help me seize every opportunity to lift Your name in praise. May I never fall short or offer anything less than my full devotion to You. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
