“The leaders also presented dedication gifts for the altar at the time it was anointed. They each placed their gifts before the altar.”
Before the altar
In the Tabernacle, there were two distinct altars: one dedicated to burning sacrifices and the other for burning incense. The sacrifice altar was accessible to all Israelites, symbolizing God’s open invitation, whereas the incense altar was reserved solely for the priestly order, emphasizing its sacredness and exclusivity. Consequently, the presentation of dedication gifts by tribal leaders occurred not before the incense altar, but at the sacrifice altar, aligning with the divine order established. This underscores that divine protocol was not overlooked because of tribal leaders’ offerings. Similarly, our actions before God should not violate His established order, regardless of what we bring or do.
Unlike the jointly presented wagons and oxen, the dedication gifts were placed individually before the altar, reminiscent of Cain and Abel’s separate sacrifices in biblical tradition. Notably, these tribal leaders strategically chose to present their dedication gifts during the Tabernacle’s anointing, a significant moment signifying divine consecration. Had they waited until after the anointing, their offerings might have lacked the same spiritual impact. Therefore, friends, do not delay in obeying God’s commands or in offering what is laid upon your heart for His glory.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to avoid procrastinating when it comes to fulfilling Your will. Guide me to act promptly and decisively, ensuring that my offerings to You are always given at the right moment for Your glory alone. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
