Numbers 11:1 NLT
“Soon the people began to complain about their hardship, and the LORD heard everything they said. Then the LORD’s anger blazed against them, and he sent a fire to rage among them, and he destroyed some of the people in the outskirts of the camp.”
Soon the people began
Today, Canada celebrates its 159th anniversary. As in years past, the occasion is more than a statutory holiday; it is also a day of thanksgiving. From coast to coast, and wherever Canadians are around the world, people will give thanks to God for the past and look with hope toward the future. Thanksgiving does not mean that challenges are absent. It means recognizing that the God who cared for us in the past can also care for us now and in the years ahead.
In the referenced scripture passage, we read that “soon the people began to complain about their hardship.” In other words, they grumbled against God. Ironically, while they lived in bondage, they did not grumble against their slaveholders; instead, they were prepared to obey them. Yet after gaining freedom and being led toward the Promised Land, they grumbled against God, claiming He had done them harm. Friends, are you of the opinion that the Lord has wronged you for where you are and how far He has brought you in the journey of life? If that has been your mindset, it isn’t too late to change and learn to give thanks to God always.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for complaining instead of thanking You for the progress You have helped me to achieve in life. Please accept my thanksgiving because I am truly grateful for all You have done for me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
