Numbers 11:1 NLT
“Soon the people began to complain about their hardship, and the LORD heard everything they said. Then the LORD’s anger blazed against them, and he sent a fire to rage among them, and he destroyed some of the people in the outskirts of the camp.”
The LORD heard everything
Recently, several people have faced serious consequences after speaking near a live microphone, unaware that their words were being recorded or broadcast. Believing the microphone was switched off or too far away to pick up their conversation, they spoke freely—only to have every word captured. The referenced Scripture suggests that the people of Israel acted as though the Lord were far away and could not hear what they said about Him. They were mistaken: the Scripture says He heard them. He heard their harsh, hurtful words; nothing they said escaped His notice. Their words could not be excused, because the Lord had not mistreated them since bringing them out of Egypt, and injustice was not part of His character. The lesson is that even people we treat well may speak harshly about us behind our backs.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please forgive me for every idle word I have spoken—every careless, unnecessary, or unkind thing I have said. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
