Strong Tower: A Daily Scripture Reflection

Numbers 10:31 NLT
““Please don’t leave us,” Moses pleaded. “You know the places in the wilderness where we should camp. Come, be our guide.”
Who are you begging—God or man?
We often think leaders have no fears. But just like you and me, every leader has something that keeps them awake at night. Still, a leader who receives instructions from the Lord, or whose commission is divine, need not be afraid. In the scripture referenced, we read that Moses pleaded with Hobab not to leave them. Why? Perhaps Moses was afraid and thought a human guide would confirm divine guidance. Notice that Moses said, “You know the places in the wilderness where we should camp. Come, be our guide.” Sometimes we act like Moses, forgetting the cloud leading us and wanting someone we can speak with to lead us, even though God is with us. Friends, whom have you asked to lead your life? Another lesson is that Moses’s offer to Hobab was not made out of love, but was a cunning way to secure his assistance. Friends, not every offer comes from love; many are made to use you, so don’t rush to accept them. Finally, if we ever plead for someone’s company, it should not be for a man to stand by us, but for God not to leave us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me keep my eyes fixed on You and trust in Your guidance, no matter the challenges I am facing now or those that lie ahead. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
