“If you do, we’ll share with you all the blessings the LORD gives us.”
Are you meant to share it?
It is not uncommon for people to decline our invitations for any reason, and we must respect their decision and take it graciously, recognizing that God wants it to be so. In the preceding verse, Hobab declined Moses’s invitation to travel with the Israelites, but Moses did not perceive God’s hand in that refusal. God had promised Abraham that He would give the promised land to Abraham’s descendants, yet Moses’s fear nearly put that promise at risk because Hobab was a Midianite. Even after Hobab declined, Moses persisted: “We’ll share with you all the blessings the LORD gives us.” Rather than seeking God’s guidance, Moses appealed directly to Hobab and promised him a share in Israel’s blessings on behalf of the people. Friends, instead of appealing to man to accompany you, shift your focus to God and do everything; He doesn’t leave you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me avoid pressuring or persuading anyone to join me on the journey to the promised land. Instead, help me always focus on You. Let each person choose freely whether to accompany me. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
