Numbers 10:19-20 NLT
“They were joined by the troops of the tribe of Simeon, led by Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai, and the troops of the tribe of Gad, led by Eliasaph son of Deuel.”
They were joined…
We often try to protect our personal space by keeping others from joining us or drawing too close. However, the Reubenites did not respond in that way. The referenced Scripture states that the Reubenites “were joined by the troops of the tribe of Simeon and the tribe of Gad,” indicating that they willingly made room for these tribes to coexist and march alongside them. They did not view the tribes as threats to their identity, influence, or position. In turn, the tribes that joined them did not despise their hosts, displace them, or attempt to undermine their authority. They joined with humility, respecting the place already established for them and contributing to the shared mission. Friends, when God asks you to create space for another person, do so willingly and without hesitation, recognizing that their presence may strengthen the work entrusted to you. Likewise, when God leads you to join others, do so with humility, respect, and a sincere desire to contribute—not to supplant, marginalize, or despise those who welcomed you.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray for the strength, humility, and attentiveness to be a gracious host, welcoming others with generosity and care. When You ask me to join someone else’s gathering, may I honour the person who welcomes me by respecting their role, contributing thoughtfully, and never supplanting, marginalizing, or despising them. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
