Numbers 10:17 NLT
“Then the Tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonite and Merarite divisions of the Levites were next in the line of march, carrying the Tabernacle with them.”
Carrying the Tabernacle with them
An English adage states, “Whatever is worth doing, is worth doing well.” The detailed instructions for dismantling, setting up, and transporting the Tabernacle were entrusted specifically to the Gershonite and Merarite clans of the Levites, each with distinct roles: the Gershonites handled the fabric and coverings, while the Merarites handled the framework and structural components. When the occasion demanded, these dedicated groups carried out their responsibilities diligently, demonstrating meticulous care and coordination. As they marched, Scripture notes that they were “carrying the Tabernacle with them,” a phrase that highlights the sacred responsibility they bore and their careful stewardship, ensuring the sacred items were protected amidst their travels. Importantly, Scripture does not indicate that the Tabernacle hindered their movement or slowed their progress; instead, they journeyed with purpose and reverence. This aligns with Jesus’ promise in Matthew 11:30 (NLT), where He says, “For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Friends, on your journey through life, what burdens are you carrying? Are you weighed down by anger and bitterness that drain your spirit? Or are you a walking temple of the Lord, carrying His divine presence with you everywhere you go, exemplifying faith and humility in your daily walk?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, the Gershonites and Merarites intentionally carried the intricate parts of the Tabernacle, including the frames, pillars, and coverings, as they journeyed through the wilderness; please help me to carry Your divine presence with intention and faith on my own journey. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
