Strong Tower: A Daily Scripture Reflection

Numbers 9:20 NLT
“Sometimes the cloud would stay over the Tabernacle for only a few days, so the people would stay for only a few days, as the Lord commanded. Then at the Lord’s command they would break camp and move on.”
Only a few days
When the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness toward the Promised Land, they relied on a cloud that hovered over the Tabernacle as a key indicator of how long they should remain in one place. Friends, what hovers over a believer is the Holy Spirit, and He doesn’t force anyone to do God’s will, just as the cloud over the Tabernacle never forced the people of Israel to break camp or settle. An important lesson is that the Israelites did not interpret the resting and lifting of the cloud over the Tabernacle as a way to resolve all their uncertainties or answer every question they had. More importantly, they didn’t worship the cloud. Equally noteworthy, they never complained if the cloud lifted after only a few days; instead, Scripture records that they were prepared to break camp and move forward without delay. Friends, the people were never fixated on any specific location but on the cloud over the Tabernacle, which served as their divine guidance. No geographical position was so attractive that they found it difficult to leave, reminding us that their ultimate goal was to reach the Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey, as God promised.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to focus my mind entirely on Your words and guidance, avoiding fixation on any distractions or obstacles along the journey toward the Promised Land. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
