Numbers 9:15 NLT
“On the day the Tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered it. But from evening until morning the cloud over the Tabernacle looked like a pillar of fire.”
On the day the Tabernacle was set up
On their journey to the Promised Land, the Lord instructed Moses to appoint Bezalel and Oholiab, whom He had filled with His Spirit of wisdom and skill, to oversee the meticulous construction of all aspects of the Tabernacle, including its sacred furnishings, intricate cords, detailed curtains, and ceremonial features, while they were still encamped in the wilderness. However, God did not delegate to them the task of physically assembling all the individual items. In Exodus 40:1-33, we read that the Lord instructed Moses to personally set up the Tabernacle; yet, in today’s referenced scripture, Moses does not mention his direct involvement, suggesting he regarded his participation more as a divine privilege than a reason for pride.
Given the complexity and size of the Tabernacle components, it is reasonable to conclude that the Levite clans—Gershomite, Kohathite, and Merarite—played vital roles in the transport, arrangement, and assembly processes. Until all parts were correctly positioned and the structure was fully erected, the Tabernacle remained incomplete. When finally assembled, the Shekinah glory of God descended and filled the Tabernacle, manifesting divine presence. Friends, when we participate in setting up the Tabernacle, we can expect to experience God’s glory. Therefore, let us always be eager to be part of those who help establish His sanctuary.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as Your Shekinah glory descended and enveloped the Tabernacle when it was set up, I pray for Your guidance. Help me actively participate in Your work with reverence and purpose, avoiding actions that could destabilize it. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
