Numbers 6:25 NLT
“May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.”

May the Lord smile on you
In our everyday actions, we often seek approval or try to avoid disapproval. For instance, as a driver, you don’t follow traffic laws to earn rewards or bonuses from the police department, but because you don’t want to attract their disapproval. In the scripture referenced, God instructs the priest to bless the children of Israel, declaring that He will smile upon them. To truly earn the smile of the Creator of heaven and earth, one must act in harmony with His will. Friends, are your actions aligned with His purpose?

Remember, the priest does not have the power to generate a divine smile. He is simply a vessel whose responsibility is to pronounce the blessing as instructed: “May the Lord smile on you.” And he must keep in mind that ‘you’ includes himself — he’s also a child of Israel. There’s no need to add “and us,” because he trusts that God’s blessing extends to him, too. He knows that, as a child of God, he is valued and will benefit from divine favour whenever he asks for blessings for others.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me avoid any behaviour or actions that might cause You to frown upon me. Guide my efforts and thoughts so that they align perfectly with Your divine will, thereby eliciting Your smile. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
