Numbers 5:6 NLT
“Give the following instructions to the people of Israel: If any of the people—men or women—betray the Lord by doing wrong to another person, they are guilty.”
To the people of Israel
There is a clear distinction between the terms “children of Israel” and “people of Israel.” The phrase “children of Israel” specifically refers to the twelve sons of Jacob, who is also known as Israel. In contrast, the term “people of Israel” encompasses a broader demographic. It includes not only the descendants of these twelve tribes but also anyone residing within Israel’s geographical boundaries. This includes converts to Judaism, immigrants, and other foreign residents who have chosen to make Israel their home.
Since the Lord specifically used the term “people of Israel,” the responsibility extends beyond the twelve tribes to everyone who chooses to live among them. The lesson here is that we cannot view ourselves as outsiders when it comes to obedience. Therefore, those of us who have been grafted into His kingdom must be prepared to fulfill His expectations. We should not seek to identify ourselves with God’s people only during times of prosperity, abundance, and divine favour, but also during challenging moments that require our obedience and commitment to His divine mandates.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly ask for Your guidance and strength to embrace the responsibilities that You place before me. Please help me cultivate a spirit of diligence and commitment, so that I do not shy away from the tasks and obligations You have entrusted to me as Your faithful servant. Grant me the wisdom to recognize the importance of each responsibility and the courage to fulfill them with grace and integrity. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
