Numbers 5:21 NLT
“At this point the priest must put the woman under oath by saying, ‘May the people know that the Lord’s curse is upon you when he makes you infertile, causing your womb to shrivel and your abdomen to swell.”

Adhere faithfully
Doing God’s will necessitates a steadfast willingness to disregard any potential backlash or judgment from society at large. Instructing the priest to place the woman under oath serves as a solemn reminder of the gravity of the circumstances surrounding her situation. This is particularly significant because the directive received from the Lord was not just a mere suggestion, but rather a standardized script—an unalterable decree that must be followed exactly as given. Thus, the priest was expected to adhere faithfully to the prescribed wording, leaving no room for personal interpretation, alteration, or embellishment of any kind.

This precision underscores the weight of the oath being administered and emphasizes the importance of clarity in the declaration, as any deviation could lead to misunderstandings with divine implications. Furthermore, should the woman ultimately be found guilty of the accusations brought against her, the Lord explicitly absolved the priest of any personal accountability for the consequences of the curse that may follow. This aspect is profoundly significant; it places the burden of the outcome squarely on the authority of the Lord’s name, reinforcing the idea that the responsibility lies not with the priest but with the divine mandate. The priest is thus a vessel executing the will of God, acting with the understanding that the divine authority provides protection from the repercussions of delivering such grave judgments.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me consistently to deliver Your word without any personal agenda, alteration, or embellishment of any kind. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
