Numbers 4:7 NLT
“Next they must spread a blue cloth over the table where the Bread of the Presence is displayed, and on the cloth they will place the bowls, ladles, jars, pitchers, and the special bread.”
Are you part of “they”?
In the referenced scripture, a term appears repeatedly: “they.” This word, indicative of a group rather than an individual, thus underscoring the Lord’s intention for collective action. So, who exactly fits into the designation of “they”? In the Old Testament context, the priests held this crucial role. God expected them to work in unison, particularly when performing sacred duties such as spreading the blue cloth on the table designated for the Bread of the Presence. This act wasn’t merely ritualistic; it involved placing the bowls, ladles, jars, pitchers, and special bread upon the cloth with precision and respect, reflecting the holiness of the task.
The overarching lesson here is clear: certain responsibilities within the framework of faith demand the involvement and effort of the entire community. Therefore, we must ask ourselves: Are we truly available to serve, or do we often prioritize personal commitments while pointing out shortcomings? In 1 Peter 2:9, we are reminded that through Jesus’s sacrificial blood, all believers have been inducted into the royal priesthood, a collective entity tasked with God’s work. As priests in the order of Jesus Christ, it is our duty to be readily available for collaboration in the Lord’s vineyard. This calling emphasizes the importance of unity and shared responsibility in the spiritual realm, highlighting that our collective efforts are essential for effective ministry and service.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me always remember that You desire my sincere effort and active participation in the work of fellow believers as we strive together to fulfill Your will on earth. Remind me that my contributions, no matter how small, are vital to the collective pursuit of Your purpose. Teach me to support and encourage those around me, fostering unity and love in our shared mission to spread Your message and bring about positive change in our communities. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
