Numbers 4:35-36 NLT
“The list included all the men between thirty and fifty years of age who were eligible for service in the Tabernacle, and the total number came to 2,750.”
No margin of error
One thing about humans is that it is only a matter of time before we inadvertently add to or subtract from instructions. I vividly recall participating in an exercise with 20 university students, in which we were tasked with relaying a specific message in a chain format. The objective was to transmit the message accurately from one person to the next without alteration. At the end of this exercise, we discovered that the original message had two significant issues: extraneous material had been unintentionally added, and certain critical parts had been inadvertently omitted.
This phenomenon is a common reflection of how human communication can lead to misunderstandings and distortions over time. However, this lack of fidelity in communication did not apply to the instructions the Lord provided to Moses. Although carried out by others besides Moses and Aaron, the scripture indicates that they preserved the sanctity and accuracy of these divine instructions. For instance, the specific guidelines regarding Kohathite males clearly state that only those aged 30-50 were eligible to serve. Those who were younger or older were intentionally excluded, ensuring that the criteria set by God were strictly adhered to without alteration.
Beloved, if you find yourself called to or have chosen to participate in any assignment or endeavour, it is crucial to avoid introducing any margin of error or personal interpretation. Instead, commit yourself fully to adhering to the Lord’s instructions as they are given, maintaining their integrity and purpose.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You, seeking Your divine guidance and unwavering strength. I ask for Your support as I strive to overcome the temptation to create a margin of error in fulfilling the responsibilities You have entrusted to me. Please help me to follow Your instructions with precision and commitment, ensuring that every action I take aligns with Your will and purpose. Grant me the clarity to understand my duties and the determination to carry them out flawlessly, reflecting Your light in all that I do. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
