“also the posts for the courtyard walls with their bases, pegs, and ropes; and all the accessories and everything else related to their use. Assign the various loads to each man by name.”
Each man by name
Today’s referenced scripture offers clear guidance on how divine responsibilities were distributed among the Merarite males aged 30 to 50. We learn that it was not the prerogative of any individual Merarite male to self-select their tasks or determine the loads they would carry; instead, this crucial assignment was carried out under Moses’s careful direction and authority. The Lord instructed Moses to “Assign the various loads to each man by name,” highlighting the importance of divine guidance in leadership decisions.
The effectiveness of Moses’s assignment process hinged on his steadfast reliance on God’s leading. This underscores a vital principle for us today: If the Lord has bestowed upon you a task, refrain from relying solely on your own judgment. Instead, in all your decisions and actions, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.
Moreover, it’s noteworthy that the Lord did not simply want Moses to allocate these assignments to Merarite males between the ages of 30 and 50; He emphasized the importance of identifying each man by name when assigning responsibilities. Also, it’s likely that the items some Merarites were tasked with taking care of the unnamed grouped articles; this didn’t diminish their importance in the grand scheme of God’s plan.
Each time they assembled the Tabernacle, Moses must have required each Merarite man to account for the loads assigned to them. In the same vein, the Lord will also seek accountability from you regarding every endeavour that bears your name. Therefore, approach your responsibilities with diligence and integrity, and strive to fulfill them to the best of your ability for His glory alone, now and always.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me take proper care of every assignment entrusted to me. Help me understand that You will hold me accountable for everything under my supervision. I ask for strength and focus so that I may honour the trust placed in me by performing my duties to the best of my ability, for Your glory alone, now and always. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
