Numbers 4:20 NLT
“The Kohathites must never enter the sanctuary to look at the sacred objects for even a moment, or they will die.”

The stakes are high
It is often said that familiarity breeds contempt, a notion that underscores the dangers of becoming too comfortable or complacent in our spiritual lives. In his letter to the Romans, Paul issued a similar cautionary message: we cannot continue to engage in sinful behaviour while expecting the grace of God to abound without consequence (Romans 6:1). This lesson highlights the importance of understanding the relationship between grace and accountability.

Furthermore, the Lord instructed the Kohathite clan within the Israelites—whose responsibilities included disassembling and transporting the Tabernacle during their journeys—that they were not to take this sacred duty lightly. This role did not permit them to enter the sanctuary for mere curiosity or inspection. Instead, their service was to be marked by a deep respect for the sanctity of God’s dwelling.

The key lesson here emphasizes that anyone serving God must not treat disobedience or neglect of His commands lightly, even for a moment. The grace we receive through Jesus Christ is precious and should not be treated with indifference. This call for diligence resonates with Paul’s message to the church at Philippi, where he wrote, “Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.”

This instruction beckons us to take our faith seriously. If we genuinely harbour a profound reverence for God, we would be intentional in avoiding even the slightest deviation from His truth and teachings. This commitment necessitates an active, deliberate effort to embody our faith in every aspect of our lives, recognizing that the stakes are high and the path requires diligence.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly ask for Your guidance to help me deepen my relationship with You and discern Your will more clearly. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
