“They must remove the ashes from the altar for sacrifices and cover the altar with a purple cloth.”
Remove the ashes
While removing the ashes from the altar might seem like a no-brainer, it is essential to note that every instruction, no matter how minute, carries implications. By clearing the ashes from the altar, the priest creates space for fresh firewood, facilitating the sustained presence of fire that the Lord required. In Leviticus 6:10-13, God gives explicit guidance to the priests, instructing them to remove ashes from the altar of burnt offerings daily. This act is not merely a physical task but an essential ritual that underscores the continuous and active worship of God.
No one knows when the camp will move, and regardless of timing, the priests must perform this duty even if they have already removed the ashes that morning. Ashes—whether fresh or old—should not be carried over to the next location. Just as ashes can extinguish a blazing fire, unresolved sins can hinder the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
To maintain a vibrant spiritual life, it is important to remove the “ashes”—the sins and distractions—that obstruct our relationship with God. This process enables a seamless walk with Him, free from the burden of guilt and spiritual stagnation.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask that You open my eyes to recognize every ash in my life that symbolizes sin. Grant me the strength and determination through the Holy Spirit to cleanse these impurities, allowing me to walk in harmony with You and not grieve the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
