Numbers 3:46-47 NLT
“There are 273 more firstborn sons of Israel than there are Levites. To redeem these extra firstborn sons, collect five pieces of silver for each of them (each piece weighing the same as the sanctuary shekel, which equals twenty gerahs).”

No one left behind!
Nothing takes God by surprise, and every child of His must embrace this truth. God was aware that there were 273 firstborn males among the people of Israel who were unmatched, and in His nature, He did not leave them to suffer. Instead, God provided a way of escape that was not burdensome. This demonstrates that His care extends not only to the majority but also encompasses every individual.

What’s fascinating is that God chose not to revert to a previous method He had already replaced. Instead, the redemption of these unmatched firstborn sons was established on a new paradigm that was easy for the people to engage with. God instructed Moses to collect five pieces of silver from each of these unmatched firstborn sons. This request was both practical and manageable; it did not require extraordinary effort or a long journey.

Before the Israelites departed from Egypt, God had granted them favour in the eyes of the Egyptians, who generously bestowed valuable gold and silver upon them. The silver that God requested did not cause any financial strain for the families involved, reinforcing the belief that God lifts burdens rather than adds to them. This act of redemption serves as a testament to God’s provision and care, illustrating that His plans are always executed with love and thoughtfulness for the welfare of all His people.

Friends, through Jesus’s blood, you and I are covered and what a privilege we have in Him!

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your care and love, which are meant for everyone, not just the majority. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
