Leviticus 5:8 NLT
“You must bring them to the priest, who will present the first bird as the sin offering. He will wring its neck but without severing its head from the body.”
You must bring them to the priest
The word ‘must’ means an obligation or a commitment that must be shouldered. Just as an offender that could afford a sheep or female goat must bring the animal to the priest, so were offenders who could only afford turtledoves or pigeons. The obligation of each seemed different. The offender that could afford a female goat or sheep would likely be economically well off, yet God expected them to be humble enough to seek forgiveness. As for offenders who were not well-to-do, they must not feel sorry for themselves. They must still present the two turtledoves or pigeons. Lastly, God gave the priest huge responsibility to attend to all regardless of their economic status. Another thing that their role required was the ability to exhibit confidentiality at all times. Friend, Jesus is our High Priest; therefore, let’s not be ashamed of approaching Him for the forgiveness of our sins.
Prayer
Dear Father, I am not proud of myself. Yet I humbly approach You for the forgiveness of my sin; please forgive me. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
