Leviticus 2:16 NLT
“The priest will take a representative portion of the grain moistened with oil, together with all the frankincense, and burn it as a special gift presented to the Lord.”
Burn it as a special gift
When God instructed that the priest burn a representative portion, He wasn’t being wasteful. Instead, the act was to serve as a representation of something that He desires in every worship. Note that burning can never occur without fire. As stated by a theologian named Benson, fire implies “the fervency of the Spirit.” Just as the Lord requested for the zeal of the Spirit in the sacrifices offered on the altar of burnt offering, the Lord desires that each aspect of our worship fires up our spirit. We cannot give Him unless we love Him, which will show through our love for one another.
Prayer
Lord of all creation, please do not let my worship of You go in vain. In Jesus’s name, amen.
