Leviticus 18:22 NLT
“Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.”
A detestable sin
As I meditated on today’s scripture, I wondered how alarming ungodliness perpetuated in the promised land by previous occupants. As a human, I thought that God should have settled the people of Israel elsewhere. Then I realized that the land wasn’t created to be bad but was made so by the actions of the inhabitants. This means that following God’s instructions can turn things around for good, which was what God expected from the people of Israel.
The Lord emphatically warned the people of Israel to abstain from engaging in sexual relationships with people of the same sex. Interestingly, the Lord didn’t say that instruction would expire after some time, meaning it is an everlasting instruction. This means that every form of sexual depravity is forever detestable to God, regardless of what the state says. As followers of Christ, we are called to keep our bodies holy so that God can permanently inhabit them.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I pray that I will not be involved in any detestable sin, whether openly or secretly. Please help me, Lord. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
