Strong Tower: A Daily Scripture Reflection

Numbers 10:30 NLT
“But Hobab replied, “No, I will not go. I must return to my own land and family.””
Can you say no?
Sometimes, consciously or unconsciously, we weigh an action’s expected marginal benefits against its expected marginal costs. If the anticipated costs outweigh the benefits, we choose not to act; if the benefits outweigh the costs, we proceed.
In the scripture referenced here, Moses invited Hobab to join him, but Hobab declined. His decision was not necessarily because the invitation lacked appeal or seemed too good to be true. He may have valued the comfort and stability of home. If his home environment had not met his needs, or if he had not felt cared for by his people, he might have been more inclined to leave. Alternatively, he may have been content with what he had.
Friends, are you content with what God has given you, or are you always searching for something more outside of His will? Remember, the grass is greener only where it is watered. How are you tending the land God has entrusted to you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me resist the urge to seize every opportunity that comes my way. Grant me the wisdom to recognize the opportunities You have authorized and the discernment to pursue only those. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
