Numbers 10:8 NLT
“Only the priests, Aaron’s descendants, are allowed to blow the trumpets. This is a permanent law for you, to be observed from generation to generation.”
Safeguard the baton of righteousness in your care
The instruction regarding blowing the trumpets consisted of two distinct parts. First, God explicitly declared that only the priests, specifically those descending from Aaron, were authorized to perform this sacred duty. The emphasis on Aaron’s lineage reinforced that priests who worshipped other gods, or anyone who assumed the priestly office without proving descent from Aaron, were prohibited from undertaking this holy task. An equally vital aspect of the instruction was its requirement for perpetual transmission across generations, emphasizing each new generation’s ongoing obligation to uphold this command. While the directive may seem straightforward, its proper observance depended heavily on Aaron and his sons’ unwavering commitment to maintaining the command’s sanctity. They also carried the responsibility of ensuring this instruction was faithfully passed down through each generation, preserving its sacredness and continuity. Friends, when the Lord asserted the command’s perpetuity, He expected the priests to do their part in ensuring the instruction is passed on. Are you doing your part in ensuring that the truth of the gospel is not only preserved but also passed down to coming generations?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me so that I do not contaminate every baton of righteousness passed to me, but will uphold it and carefully pass it on to those who will, through Your grace, do the same to others faithfully. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
