“Whenever Moses went into the Tabernacle to speak with the Lord, he heard the voice speaking to him from between the two cherubim above the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—that rests on the Ark of the Covenant. The Lord spoke to him from there.”

From the referenced scripture, we can infer that there was an assured place where Moses was confident he would hear from God: the specific spot between the cherubim above the Ark’s cover, known as the mercy seat. If you seek the same direct experience, you don’t need to craft two cherubim above the Ark’s cover; instead, you must consecrate yourself internally and externally. In other words, you need to be holy as God is holy, maintaining a pure heart and clean hands. The core message about where God spoke to Moses demonstrates that divine communication occurs in a state of holiness. Friends, if you desire intimate, ongoing communication with God, do not neglect holiness! Furthermore, Moses’s continual access to God indicates a life prepared for communion at any moment. For example, Moses could approach God before or after meals, since access to God’s presence is conditioned on having a pure heart and clean hands—there is no need to abstain from food to maintain this purity (Mark 7:15; Matthew 15:11).

Heavenly Father, You have given me what it takes to have clean hands and a pure heart, which is Your Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Please help me, Holy Spirit, to intentionally follow Jesus as my example. Amen.
