Numbers 7:46 NLT
“and a male goat for a sin offering.”
The best of us is a sinner
Eliasaph, the son of Deuel, was the tribal leader of the tribe of Gad, a prominent figure respected for his leadership and spiritual integrity. It is reasonable to assume that his people regarded him as a model to follow, especially given his actions. Firstly, Eliasaph did not disappoint his followers; he demonstrated his devotion by bringing acceptable gifts to God, including grain, burnt offerings, and special ceremonial items.
Secondly, he demonstrated personal humility and self-awareness by offering a male goat as a sin offering, indicating he recognized himself as a sinner in need of divine forgiveness. Eliasaph did not equate his position as leader with moral immunity or spiritual exemption; he acknowledged his need for God’s mercy.
If Eliasaph, the leader of Gad, required forgiveness and was unafraid to seek it, then all believers, regardless of status, share this universal need. Because of Jesus’ sacrificial blood, we are granted eternal forgiveness. Thus, we should approach God’s throne with humility, trusting in the cleansing power of the blood shed from Immanuel’s vein, which can wash away all guilty stains and restore us to purity.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner in urgent need of Your divine forgiveness. I humbly ask for Your mercy, trusting completely in the finished work of salvation that Jesus Christ accomplished through His suffering, shedding His blood on the cross, death, resurrection, and ascension. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
