Numbers 7:37 NLT
“His offering consisted of a silver platter weighing 3-1/4 pounds and a silver basin weighing 1-3/4 pounds (as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel). These were both filled with grain offerings of choice flour moistened with olive oil.”
Measured by the weight
As a sign of reverence for the Lord, it is highly probable that Shelumiel explicitly stated the weight of the silver platter and silver basin he presented as offerings to the Lord. However, Moses was responsible for validating the exact weight of the items brought before him. According to the scriptures, Moses fulfilled this duty by using the standard of the sanctuary shekel—a precise weight measure established for sacred offerings. Moses measuring the silver platter and basin cannot be misconstrued as a lack of trust in Shelumiel; rather, it was his duty as the Lord’s representative to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the offerings. An additional insight is that there were likely other weighing procedures available, but Moses strictly used the sanctuary’s standardized weighing apparatus to maintain consistency. It is crucial for us not to deviate from divine instructions but to adhere closely to them. Just as Moses accurately stated the weight of the silver platter and basin—without any embellishment—so must we faithfully present what is required.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, empower me to passionately fulfill my duty in Your house, not driven by my desires but guided by Your divine precepts! In Jesus’s name, Amen.
