Numbers 7:13 NLT
“His offering consisted of a silver platter weighing 3-1/4 pounds and a silver basin weighing 1-3/4 pounds (as measured by the weight of the sanctuary shekel). These were both filled with grain offerings of choice flour moistened with olive oil.”
A silver platter and a silver basin
Have you ever heard the saying: “Presentation matters”? In the popular Canadian TV cooking show Top Chef, contestants are judged not only on the taste and quality of their dishes but also on the visual appeal of their plating. If the presentation does not meet the highest standards, judges deduct points. Since humans inherently value how content is presented, how much more might God require it, given that all our instincts originate from Him?
In the referenced scripture, Moses observed and reported how Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, presented his gift to God. Nahshon did not bring it carelessly or in a dishonoured vessel but placed it carefully inside a polished silver platter and a matching silver basin, symbolizing reverence. Additionally, each of these vessels was filled to the brim with carefully prepared grain offerings of fine flour, thoroughly moistened with pure olive oil.
Nahshon didn’t present to God what he liked but what God desired, and this couldn’t have happened if not for the fact that they had been paying attention to divine instructions. Filling the platter and basin to the brim reveals the heart of Nahshon as someone who gave generously and not sparingly. Friends, like Nahshon, let’s ensure we do not treat God with contempt through our offerings and presentations, but rather approach Him with reverence, sincerity, generosity, and the utmost respect.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to approach my offering for You with reverence, sincerity, generosity, and utmost respect, ensuring that my heart is genuinely grateful and my intentions are pure. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
