Numbers 7:9 NLT
“But he gave none of the wagons or oxen to the Kohathite division, since they were required to carry the sacred objects of the Tabernacle on their shoulders.”
But he gave none…to the Kohathite division
It is frequently asserted that any individual provided with a hoe will tend to prioritize their own interests. Nevertheless, Moses, a Levite belonging to the Kohathite clan—a subgroup within the broader Levi tribe—demonstrated that when one possesses a hoe and serves God, it is not necessarily obligatory to utilize it for personal advantage, particularly if guidance from God has not been received to do so. This act was a deliberate demonstration of love toward God and the Kohathite clan, as well as a profound obedience to divine commandments.
Moses’s actions exemplify that the lack of wagons and oxen for the Kohathite division served a greater divine purpose and was in harmony with God’s plan. Moses’s steadfast trust in the Lord’s instructions was vital; he recognized that personal bias or emotional reasoning should not influence his decisions, especially in spiritual matters. Although the Gershonite and Merarite divisions were provided with wagons and oxen, this did not imply that it was appropriate for the Kohathite division to receive the same or similar resources. The paramount lesson is that every individual must diligently fulfill their assigned responsibilities in accordance with God’s specific directives, thereby avoiding the temptation to imitate others’ approaches in His service.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to diligently carry out every task You have entrusted to me, following Your specific instructions and guidance with focus and faith, ensuring I pay close attention to each detail and approach my responsibilities with precision and unwavering trust. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
