Numbers 6:20 NLT
“Then the priest will lift them up as a special offering before the Lord. These are holy portions for the priest, along with the breast of the special offering and the thigh of the sacred offering that are lifted up before the Lord. After this ceremony the Nazirites may again drink wine.”

After this ceremony
A while ago, I watched a YouTube video showing two dogs patiently waiting until their owner had spoken a blessing or offered a prayer over their food before they started eating. Although this behaviour may seem unusual to some, the key takeaway is that dogs rely on their owner’s verbal or visual cues—such as a prayer or blessing—to signal when it is appropriate to eat. As children of God, our actions should be guided by His commands and divine guidance, not by fleeting emotions, impulses, or personal desires.

Unfortunately, many people fail to wait for God’s clear signal before beginning a particular endeavour. For example, the Nazarites, who committed themselves entirely to God’s service from birth, would shave their hair and present specific offerings at the entrance of the Tabernacle. However, they could not proceed with any part of their vow that was forbidden, such as drinking wine, until the ceremonial rituals were completed.

Another important lesson is that the Lord said “may,” indicating that the Nazarites had the choice either to abstain completely or resume drinking wine later. The decision was entirely theirs, and God did not praise those who chose to cease the activity nor condemn those who decided to reengage with it. So, friends, are you often in a rush, or do you make it a practice to wait patiently for God’s clear instruction before taking action?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, please help me to patiently wait for Your specific instruction regarding any action I should take, whether it’s guidance through prayer, reading Scripture, or sensing Your promptings. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
