Numbers 6:20 NLT
“Then the priest will lift them up as a special offering before the Lord. These are holy portions for the priest, along with the breast of the special offering and the thigh of the sacred offering that are lifted up before the Lord. After this ceremony the Nazirites may again drink wine.”
Special offering before the Lord
Today, a widespread teaching persists that has no basis in God’s Word. There is no scriptural indication that anyone should offer sacrifices to access someone’s anointing or spiritual power. Although the Nazarites were required to present offerings as a vow of dedication to the Lord, these sacrifices were not intended to tap into the priest’s anointing; rather, even the priests offered them as sacred offerings to God, emphasizing their faithfulness and devotion. Any blessings received afterward cannot be attributed to the priest involved in the sacrifice but solely to God, to whom the offering was dedicated.
Friends, honour the Lord with your giving, not man, because the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof—no man has ownership over it. While the Lord did specify that a portion of the offering belongs to the priest, there is nowhere in Scripture that states that, because the priest eats these sacrifices, there is a transfer of spiritual authority or blessing from the priest to the giver. This distinction is important to understand in the biblical context, reaffirming that blessings come from God alone, not from giving to a priest or from rituals with no scriptural foundation.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask for the strength to guard my heart against selfish motives so that I will not wrongly engage in the act of giving with the wrong intentions. Please help me continually look up to You for every blessing, recognizing Your hand in all that I receive. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
