Numbers 5:19 NLT
“The priest will then put the woman under oath and say to her, ‘If no other man has had sex with you, and you have not gone astray and defiled yourself while under your husband’s authority, may you be immune from the effects of this bitter water that brings on the curse.”
Instant immunity
Until I realized that I had received the wrong flu shot, I consistently fell ill after each vaccination. Each time I caught the flu, I was left perplexed, wondering why the immunity I expected from the shot never materialized. However, today’s referenced scripture highlights a different kind of immunity—one offered by a priest through God’s direction. It requires no poking but comes through God’s word.
Another insight from the scripture is that within the framework of divine justice, every individual is considered innocent until proven guilty. This essential principle is emphasized in the referenced scripture, which shows that God did not instruct the priest to hastily impose a curse on the accused. Instead, the priest was directed to confirm the accused’s freedom from any curse, especially if the allegations were found to be unfounded.
While the bitter water mentioned in the scripture can lead to severe consequences for those deemed guilty, the assurance provided through the priest’s declaration serves as a crucial safeguard for the innocent. The power held by the priest’s authority to potentially avert harm reveals a significant truth: if the priest’s words can prevent dangerous effects, how much greater is the influence of God’s words—the source of that authority—when He speaks directly over a challenging circumstance? This divine immunity offers no delayed response but provides immediate and effective protection, ensuring that those who seek refuge are safeguarded right away.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that Your word possesses unparalleled power over every situation, capable of bringing liberation to those who seek it. As I approach You in prayer, I earnestly ask that Your divine word be spoken over my life, breaking any chains of curses and lifting the weight of condemnation that I feel. Lord, I ask for Your boundless mercy to pour over me, granting me the strength to overcome these burdens and the grace to start anew in Your love. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
