Numbers 4:8 NLT
“They must spread a scarlet cloth over all of this, and finally a covering of fine goatskin leather on top of the scarlet cloth. Then they must insert the carrying poles into the table.”
The necessity of complete obedience
Doing God’s will isn’t a one-time endeavour; instead, it is continuous. In the Old Testament, the Lord instructed Aaron and his sons to perform several tasks in the Tabernacle when the camp moved. They can’t assert that all is well when some or the majority of the “must” activities have been done, but only when all assigned activities have been done, as in the importance of obedience and thoroughness in fulfilling God’s commands. The referenced scripture clearly states that Aaron and his sons cannot overlook any of the intricate instructions laid out for them.
For instance, they couldn’t haphazardly use any piece of cloth they found to cover the sacred objects; they were required to use only the specified materials as dictated by the Lord. Additionally, they were instructed not to forget to insert the carrying poles into the table designated for the showbread. These poles were vital for transporting the holy items, emphasizing that even the smallest details were significant in the service of God. Thus, the narrative serves as a powerful reminder of the necessity of complete obedience to God’s will in every aspect of life.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I humbly come before You, seeking that You guide me in truly valuing and paying attention to the intricate details in every aspect of my life. I ask for Your guidance, especially in understanding and following Your divine instructions. Help me to recognize the significance of Your words, ensuring I do not mistakenly substitute “may” for “must.” Instill in me a steadfast commitment to follow Your will with precision and clarity, so that every decision I make reflects Your teachings and leads me closer to Your purpose. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
