Numbers 4:1-2 NLT
“Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Record the names of the members of the clans and families of the Kohathite division of the tribe of Levi.”

Moses and Aaron
Given that Aaron was Moses’s elder brother, one would have expected that, genealogically, he must be listed first in records involving Moses. Interestingly, in the referenced scripture and in others, Moses’s name was listed before Aaron’s. The listing wasn’t a mistake; affirming it was intentional. The order of listing wasn’t about genealogy but based on divine calling. Having Moses’s name first underscores that divine purpose takes precedence over human hierarchical order.

Another insight concerns the assignment at hand: the task was to record the various Levite clans, beginning with the Kohathites. While Moses had previously performed a similar assignment without complaint, the inclusion of Aaron in this particular undertaking was strategic. Given that the recording involved Aaron’s assistants, it would be beneficial for him to become directly familiar with them and their roles.

This approach parallels practices in modern business environments, where employers often involve direct managers during recruitment processes to ensure a seamless integration of new hires. The lesson drawn from this biblical account is profound: there is no aspect of life—leadership, collaboration, or divine purpose — that God has not addressed in scripture. By taking the time to delve deeper into scriptures, we can uncover valuable insights that guide our personal and communal lives.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, Your word reveals that Your purpose overwrites human hierarchical order. Concerning every and any divine assignment assigned to me, please help me focus on performing it, Your desire, and not encumber myself with human hierarchical order or issues that are inconsequential to eternal life. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
